The Tidewater Automotive Modelers Society (TAMS) was a chapter of the nation wide club Automotive Modelers Society. The nation wide club has long since passed but TAMS is going strong. Tams is a non-profit organization, founded in January 1990, that provides a venue for Tidewater area residents to celebrate the hobby of building and collecting scale model cars, trucks, motorcycles, construction equipment and other automotive related subjects. Our club is a low stress, flexible group that consists of modelers of all walks of life. The club’s focus is on fun and developing skills and knowledge of the automotive modeling field. There are no restrictions to membership; everyone is welcome, regardless of interests, budget, or skill level. Several members of TAMS have had their work published in various magazines that cater to automotive modelers including Scale Auto, the old Car Modeler and Model Cars (formerly Plastic Fanatic). Many trophies and awards have found their way into the homes of club members who have decided to enter their models in local, regional and national competitions. Club members build and collect everything from NASCAR racers to Pro-Street, Muscle cars to pre-1945 classics, dragsters to pickups. You name it and someone will have it! Regular meetings are usually held at the Virginia Beach Hobby Town Store on the second Sunday of the month from 2 PM until we are tired or out of thing to say. The club does not require the payment of monthly dues. Our only rule is that the majority rules, no hard and fast rules. Are you interested? If you have any questions, we’d love to answer them. Any of the club members will gladly speak with you about our club and automotive modeling. People seeking to attend their first meeting, call to find out the exact date and location of the meeting. If interested, just stop by on a meeting day or send contact us through this site.
